Description: © 2007 dookdawg214 - Approved TF1 (France) transmission.
Original English adaptation and subtitled version by YouTube user dookdawg214, first posted on previous account, poopyheadpoophead, in April 2007. English-subtitled version not to be used without prior permission by user dookdawg214.

Several comments...

1. This is just a joke (albeit with a provocative title to get more views). I certainly don't think the majority of French people are dumb. Most Frenchies I know are quite bright.

2. This sub-titled version is now floating all around the Internet, but just for the record, it is my original translation. I was the first to post this with subtitles, on my old account (Poopyheadpoophead, which no longer exists) around March or April 2007.

3. Translation/semantics...
Rotate: move or pass on in a regularly recurring order or succession (Oxford online dictionary). The reason I'm posting this definition is because when I had this video on my old channel, I got a lot of comments by people wanting to play semantics regarding the translation (saying that technically the sun rotates around the earth based on perspective). True, I probably would've been better off using the word "orbit" just to be closer. But the fact is, in this context, any of the following words can be used for "graviter": orbit, revolve and rotate. In any case, it doesn't matter because the contestant was given a word that could not be misunderstood: "graviter."

4. A lot of people come to the defense of the audience by saying they must've been messing with the guy (as if 58% couldn't really have not known). This is bullshit for a couple reasons... First, this type of manipulation never happens on this French format, no matter how easy the question (there've been many questions dumber than this that went to the audience). Second, if it were a mockery, then why did almost everyone choose the sun? If the audience were really screwing around with him, there would've been so many ridiculous random answers; such a large portion would not have chosen the sun. Third, this was a €3,000 question. The producers don't just randomly pick the levels. The questions are tested in case studies, with regular population, to determine the difficulty. If this question was placed at this level, then it was because it was deemed fairly difficult for the average person. So, if you're going to just say that the audience intentionally answered wrong, then ok, I say every dumb American answering stupid questions incorrectly on videos was just doing it intentionally to make fun of the journalist. That's way too easy.
